Vienna, Austria

Castles. Monet. Schnitzel. Cafés. Vienna has something every NYU Praguer will love! On our recent weekend trip, my friends and I couldn’t check out every museum, park, and pastry, but we did find something every member of your travel squad will like:

FOR THE FRIEND WHO WON’T LET YOU TOUCH YOUR FOOD UNTIL THEY GET THE PERFECT PHOTO...

Vienna’s cafes are a feast for the eyes. Sachertorte -- a rich chocolate cake topped with apricot jam -- is an Austrian specialty, but I wouldn’t blame you for being tempted by the dozens of other enticing pastries that fill the display cases of every cafe. See for yourself:

FOR THE FRIEND WHO EATS EVERYTHING IN SIGHT...

You can’t leave Vienna without trying schnitzel! On our first evening in the city, my friends and I ate schnitzel and apple strudel at Figlmueller. The line stretched out the door and down the block when we got there, but the food and ambience were well worth the wait!

FOR THE FRIEND WHO IS ONLY THERE FOR THE INSTA…

Show your followers that you’re #thriving by posting a picture from the beautiful gardens outside of Schönbrunn Palace. While you’re at it, take a tour of the Palace itself, which served as a royal summer residence under the rule of Maria Theresa.

FOR THE FRIEND WHO WOULD RATHER LOOK AT PICTURES THAN TAKE THEM...

The Albertina and the Belvedere are staples in any art enthusiast’s visit to Vienna. Both museums, which house paintings and other exhibitions that span hundred of years of art history, are breathtaking works of art in themselves.

FOR THE FRIEND WHO IS OBSESSED WITH BABIES…

Okay, maybe not everyone has a friend like this. But no joke, Vienna public transport is overflowing with toddlers. Parents push strollers on and off the trains and buses at every stop! This isn’t particularly important, but I haven’t seen this in Prague, so it’s definitely something different.

… AND FOR THE FRIEND WHO IS STILL A KID AT HEART:

Vienna is home to Europe’s oldest amusement park, Prater. Catch a glimpse of the Vienna skyline on the giant ferris wheel -- or, if you want to skip the line and don’t mind hurtling toward the ground at 90mph, there are some more daring options:
